The department utilizes a “speed” trailer, placed on various streets at various times, to enable drivers in recognizing their speed. Our goal is to help drivers become aware of the speed limit, of their speed and to ultimately encourage compliance with the speed regulations.
The Mount Vernon Police Department is also a member of the METRICH Task Force. A 10-county joint drug enforcement team. They are dedicated to getting drugs off the streets.

The Police department has brought back bicycle patrol. Each shift will have officers who are bicycle trained and will focus on the parks, bicycle path and residential areas. Bicycles add another tool to reduce neighborhood crime while allowing better interaction with the public. Bicycle Patrol will also assist in education and public relations.
The police department is responsible for “parking” enforcement. We employ a part-time Parking Enforcement Officer and a computerized record of all violations is handled by the Records Clerk. Parking tickets can be paid at the lobby window during normal business hours. Disputes will be handled by the Chief of Police or his designee. The Mayor’s Office has final say over disputes at this time.
The Administration office employs two Executive Secretaries who manage all of the department’s payroll, and all secretarial functions for the Administration.
